Our project area is Walthamstow, E17. The first time I visited this place is in a sunny day. Once I went out tube station I was attractived by what I was seeing. Such a beautiful area it is. There is a library looks very old not far from the station and a market near by. People sale lots of good stuff there. Two places I interested in are Town Hall of Walthamstow and William Morris Gallery. There is a big pool in front of the Town Hall and a green clock tower at the top. In the right side of the town hall there is another building which we found a very interesting sentence on it. “Fellowship is life and……” and it began to one part of our game. The William Morris Gallery the boyhood home of William Morris mid-18th century. He has a permanent exhibition on his life and work - including wallpapers, fabrics, carpets and stained glass. There are also displays of work by his associates and The Century Guild, and paintings by Pre-Raphaelites and Frank Brangwyn. The gallery was opened by Prime Minister Clement Attlee in 1950.
According to this area we created 20 tasks and I did three of them. First I took a photo of the town hall and did some changes by using software, so you can only see the shape of the building. Players’ mission is to find this building and take another photo of it from same angle. As I said above we found an interesting sentence on the top a building near by town hall. “Fellowship is life and……” I’m not going to write the whole sentence here because this is one task of the game. Players have to find this sentence and complete it, then write the whole sentence in the original place of a photo which has given. The third task is based on a bridge. This is a contemporary bridge and we took photo of it as well. Then we cut out the frame of this bridge. For first step players must think about what it is used to be. Because it is hard to see what the bridge is when it has no frame. Then they have to take a photo of it and combine two photos into a final one which show the whole bridge.
From the London project, I learnt a lot. First of all, I have been to a new area I never went before. At least I know something about Walthamtow now, such as where is the library, what’s on the William Morris Gallery, what does the town hall look like, ect. Then when I was doing research I got deeper consideration of this area. When the group members were discussing we exchanged our opinions, so I learnt to express myself during the process. Another thing I realized that the corporation between members is very important. This is a interesting project.
